Tourism and Event Management
Overview
VET in schools multiplies opportunities for students. They enable students to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification as well as contribute towards their VCE or VCAL Certificate. Classroom learning is combined with structured hands-on training and practice in industry. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a broad range of event management and hospitality skills, including significant communication, planning and organisational skills, underpinned by a detailed knowledge of the event management process. This qualification also provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be a competent supervisor in any hospitality functional area. This person would possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and be able to use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and/or the work of their team.

Structured Workplace Learning
Structured Workplace Learning is not mandated in this program, however the VCAA strongly recommend all VET students undertake some work placement.
Contribution to the VCE and VCAL
On completion of the program students are eligible for four credits towards their VCE or VCAL certificate, two at units 1 and 2 level. and a 3 and 4 sequence. Students who successfully complete the year 12 Unit 3-4 sequence will be eligible for a 10% increment towards their ATAR as a fifth or sixth subject.

Pathways
This certificate is an exciting opportunity for any student interested in a career in the Tourism Industry but at the same time, students are able to gain an insight into Event Management. Employment opportunities may extend to working in Travel Tourism, Festivals, Corporate Events, and work in a Tourist Information Centre.
