The study will focus on developing knowledge and understanding of a range of texts. Students will be encouraged to become more responsible and independent learners. Using writing as a tool, students will learn to convey ideas and information effectively using a variety of text types for different purposes and audiences. They will use formal language to construct a range of responses, both for school purposes and increasingly for purposes relevant to their lives out of school. Students will study and use these texts to explore in some depth familiar and challenging ideas and issues and respond to these texts both personally and in more detached and critical ways. Students will prepare and present spoken language for specified purposes and audiences. The skills of English will be taught using themes derived from the study of texts.
