The Science of Life
This course provides a broad-based, integrated study of the range of Biological topics which are recommended for progression to the study of VCE Biology as well as other areas of study or employment. This is achieved through a variety of tasks such as practical investigations, dissections, research projects as well as the acquisition of knowledge and understanding through classroom teaching. Topics included in this course are: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Disease and Immunology, Genetics and Inheritance and Evolution, with a focus on human evolution.
Look like Mum or Dad? Your Sister looks just like you. Want to know why? Year 10 Biology will help you understand patterns of inheritance, genetics and gene expression. What happens when things go wrong? Genetic disorders, diagnosis and treatment. Where did we come from? The formation of sperm and egg! Reproduction, both sexual and asexual. The course begins with the key knowledge of cells and progresses into the formation of cells with particular focus on the formation of egg and sperm.
Evolution? How? Where? Evidence? Patterns of evolution has been recently added to the course in 2015. This area of study flows directly into Unit 4 Biology and gives a good introduction for Year 12 Biological studies. Body systems and defence against disease are also included in this broad-based subject. Although the key knowledge and skills span all areas of study each semester may alter slightly depending on the interest base of the student in the class. This flexible curriculum aims to cater for all interests and topics and assessments are designed for students interest.
