UNIT 1
In this unit students develop an understanding of the language and culture/s of Indonesian-speaking communities by focusing on topics such as leisure, education and aspirations, and the customs, traditions and celebrations of the different ethnic and religious groups of Indonesia. Students will continue to consolidate and extend their vocabulary and grammar knowledge, and develop their language skills by exploring a range of visual, spoken and written texts. Throughout the unit students will explore the connection between language and culture, and how this impacts language use in different contexts and for different audiences.
AREA OF STUDY 1: Interpersonal communication
Outcome 1:
On completion of this unit students should be able to maintain an informal, personal, spoken interaction in Indonesian.
AREA OF STUDY 2: Interpretive communication
Outcome 2:
On completion of this unit students should be able to locate information from two texts (written, spoken or audio-visual) in Indonesian, summarise content and respond in written form in Indonesian and in English.
AREA OF STUDY 3: Presentational communication
Outcome 3:
On completion of this unit students should be able to present information, concepts and ideas in writing in Indonesian, for a specific audience and purpose. The presentation may include supporting visual elements.
UNIT 2
In this unit students develop an understanding of aspects of Indonesian language and culture through the study of topics including travel, the impact of tourism, rural and urban life, and poverty. Students analyse a range of visual, spoken and written texts and continue to extend their languages skills. Students build on their vocabulary knowledge and consolidate their understanding of Indonesian grammar functions.
AREA OF STUDY 1: Interpersonal communication
Outcome 1:
On completion of this unit students should be able to participate in a written exchange in Indonesian, in response to presented spoken, written or visual texts
AREA OF STUDY 2: Interpretive communication
Outcome 2:
On completion of this unit students should be able to analyse and extract information from texts provided in Indonesian, and respond to these texts using elements of this information in an extended written response.
AREA OF STUDY 3: Presentational communication
Outcome 3:
Students research cultural products or practices that demonstrate an aspect of the culture studied. On completion of this unit students should be able to orally present information and ideas about their researched topic to a specific audience.
