UNIT 3

Throughout this unit, students will reflect on how their knowledge of Indonesian and Indonesian-speaking communities can be applied in a range of contexts and endeavours, such as further study, travel, business or community involvement.

 

Exploring topics such as environmental issues, education and aspirations, and the role of women, students will consolidate and extend their vocabulary and grammar knowledge and language skills. Students will use their language skills to negotiate and persuade in Indonesian, interpret information, inform others, and develop persuasive arguments. They will reflect of the influence of language and culture in shaping meaning, and investigate the way Indonesian speakers interpret and express ideas.

 

AREA OF STUDY 1: Interpersonal communication

Outcome 1

On completion of this unit students should be able to participate in a spoken exchange in Indonesian to negotiate a solution and resolve an issue

 

AREA OF STUDY 2: Interpretive communication

Outcome 2

On completion of this unit students should be able to interpret information from texts and write responses to specific questions or instructions in Indonesian

 

AREA OF STUDY 3: Presentational communication

Outcome 3

On completion of this unit students should be able to express ideas in a personal, informative or imaginative piece of writing in Indonesian.

 

UNIT 4

Throughout this unit students will reflect on how knowledge of more than one culture can influence the ways individuals relate to each other and function in the world. Students consolidate and extend vocabulary, grammar knowledge and language skills to investigate the topics studied.

 

Students build on their knowledge of Indonesian-speaking communities, identifying and reflecting on the ways culture, place and time influence values, attitudes and behaviours.

AREA OF STUDY 1: Interpersonal communication

Outcome 1

Students research and present information on a cultural product or practise from and Indonesian speaking community. On completion of this unit students should be able to share information, ideas and opinions in a spoken exchange/interview.

 

AREA OF STUDY 2: Interpretive communication

Outcome 2

On completion of this unit students should be able to analyse information extracted from written, spoken and viewed texts for use in a written response in Indonesian.

 

AREA OF STUDY 3: Presentational communication

Outcome 3

On completion of this unit students should be able to present an extended written response to persuade the audience of a certain point of view on the topics.

 

 

SCHOOL-BASED ASSESSMENT

 

  • School-assessed coursework for Unit 3 will contribute 25 per cent to the study score.
  • School-assessed coursework for Unit 4 will contribute 25 per cent to the study score.

 

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT

The level of achievement for Units 3 and 4 is also assessed by two end-of-year examinations.

  • an oral examination - approximately 15 minutes
  • a written examination - 2 hours plus 15 minutes reading time.

The examinations together will contribute 50 per cent to the study score.
