Transition to Secondary School Information

Grade 6 into Year 7 is a very exciting time for students and their families. At Elisabeth Murdoch College, we follow the Department of Education and Training state-wide transition program.

All the early transition for Grade 6 into Year 7 is managed by your primary school.  Your primary school will distribute forms to families in early Term 2. This important documentation is where parents/carers will select their secondary school of choice.

We encourage families to discuss any queries they may have with the transition process with their Grade 6 teacher or primary school transition coordinator.

We ask that all families applying from outside our college zone attach a letter to their Transition to Secondary School application, addressed to our Transition Team.  In this letter, we recommend including information about your child’s attendance, effort, and behaviour, as well as any leadership positions they have held , academic achievements, and any extracurricular activities they are involved in or would like to pursue. We DO NOT require any school reports, character references or letters from your school surrounding your child The out of zone letter is sufficient at this stage.  To check whether you reside within our school zone, please visit the Find My School website https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/#school=1872201

The college holds numerous college tours throughout the year (conducted by our Principal and Transition teams), we hope families will be as informed as possible about our college and what we can offer for every student. Information regarding the booking college tours can be found on the home page of this website. We encourage families to attend our college tours to see how our college operates on a normal school day.

Specialist program applications for Year 7 in 2027 will not open until Term 3 and will only be accessible to students who have been accepted into the college as a student for 2027. Families will be notified by their primary school which secondary school they have been allocated in late Term 2, please check with your primary school regarding this date.

For information regarding the four Specialist Programs offered at Elisabeth Murdoch College in Year 7-9 please visit Middle School Specialist Programs.
